Super Copa, Mercedes Benz | Time: 2018–20120 | Credit: Chief Designer | Projects: 1 | Industry: Motorsport
Developed as a strategic collaboration between Super Copa and Mercedes-Benz, this concept explored how the championship could evolve through a vehicle that combined racing performance with the unmistakable character of the Mercedes design language.
OVERVIEW ARC MBSC5
CHALLENGE
Mercedes-Benz carries one of the most recognizable design languages in the automotive world. Translating that heritage into a purpose-built racing machine was never going to be about adding a grille or reshaping the headlights.
The real challenge was creating a vehicle capable of respecting the brand's elegance while embracing the raw aggression demanded by professional motorsport. Every surface had to balance sophistication with performance, ensuring the car looked unmistakably Mercedes-Benz without compromising the technical realities of a race-ready platform.
This wasn't about adapting a production car—it was about redefining what a Mercedes race car could become within the world of Super Copa.
DESIGN THINKING
The project began by identifying the visual elements that define Mercedes-Benz beyond its iconic emblem. Proportions, shoulder lines, grille architecture, lighting signatures, and surface tension became the foundation for a completely new racing identity.
Rapid sketch exploration allowed multiple design directions to emerge before converging into a body that blended aerodynamic efficiency with a strong emotional presence. Every decision was driven by a simple principle: preserve the DNA of the brand while allowing the vehicle to communicate speed, confidence, and purpose from every angle.
Rather than decorating a racing chassis, the objective was to create a machine that felt born from Mercedes-Benz itself.
REFLECTION
The ARC MBSC5 became a reminder that the strongest designs are those capable of translating identity instead of simply reproducing form.
Working alongside Super Copa and Mercedes-Benz demonstrated that successful motorsport design lives at the intersection of engineering, performance, and brand heritage. Every line carries responsibility, every surface communicates intent, and every proportion contributes to the personality of the machine.
Looking back, the project was never just about designing another race car—it was about proving that a global design language could evolve into something uniquely competitive without losing the character that made it iconic.
