Client: Super Copa, NASCAR México | Time: 2018–2019 | Credit: Design Consultant | Projects: 3 | Industry: Motorsport
The ARC MTCC SV8 consultancy explored a new direction for the Mexican Touring Car Championship by transforming the NASCAR México platform into a modern silhouette racing car capable of representing multiple manufacturers.
Working alongside Super Copa and NASCAR México, the project focused on developing three distinctive brand identities—Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW—while preserving a common racing architecture, technical feasibility, and manufacturing efficiency.
The result was a family of vehicles that shared the same engineering foundation yet expressed completely different personalities, proving that brand identity can become a competitive tool without compromising performance.
OVERVIEW ARC MTCC SV8
CHALLENGE
Every manufacturer has its own visual language. Every race car must obey the same engineering rules.
That contradiction became the project's greatest challenge.
How could three completely different brands coexist on a single NASCAR chassis while remaining instantly recognizable from every angle? More importantly, how could those identities survive the brutal constraints imposed by aerodynamics, production methods, and racing regulations?
This consultancy wasn't about styling different front fascias. It was about translating decades of brand heritage into a unified motorsport platform capable of feeling authentic, competitive, and unmistakably Audi, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW.
DESIGN THINKING
The process began by understanding what could—and what could not—be changed.
Instead of forcing superficial styling cues onto the chassis, the design strategy focused on identifying the visual DNA that defines each manufacturer: proportions, grille architecture, lighting signatures, shoulder lines, and surface transitions.
Dozens of rapid sketches explored different visual directions before evolving into digital concepts, constantly balancing aesthetics with manufacturability and race-ready functionality.
Every surface was evaluated not only for its appearance but for its ability to communicate brand identity under the demanding conditions of professional motorsport. The objective was simple: create three completely different emotional experiences from a single engineering platform.
REFLECTION
The ARC MTCC SV8 consultancy reinforced an idea that continues to shape my design philosophy today: great transportation design is never about decoration—it is about identity.
Working within strict technical constraints demonstrated that creativity often emerges from limitations rather than complete freedom. The project proved that engineering and brand storytelling are not opposing forces but complementary disciplines capable of creating machines with genuine character.
Looking back, the greatest achievement wasn't designing three race cars—it was proving that one platform could successfully tell three completely different stories.
